Dr. Mylvaganam’s expertise includes macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, intraocular tumors, ocular trauma, uveitis, retinal vascular diseases, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, dislocated intraocular lenses, inherited retinal degenerations/dystrophies, and other surgical and medical aspects of the retina.
He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is also a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Mylvaganam has authored scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and presented his work at national and local conferences including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the Georgetown Retina Symposium, and the Rabb Retina Study Club in Chicago.
He is also an active educator of residents and medical students. Dr. Mylvaganam was awarded the String of Pearls, an award presented to the top resident who demonstrates exceptional commitment to teaching students, exemplifies humanism in the care of patients, and who serves as a superior role model and mentor for students. He continues to volunteer and teach residents and medical students at Cook County Stroger Hospital in the Department of Ophthalmology.
In his free time, Dr. Mylvaganam enjoys spending time with his wife (a physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital), his daughter, and his rescue pup. They enjoy spending days at the park, exploring, and traveling.
